10 Philadelphia Events for Black Professionals This Week

There’s always something to do in the City of Brotherly Love! Check out my curated event list for Black professionals in Philadelphia this week!

1. ELECTRIC CHURCH
Tuesday, February 21, 2017, 7:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.
As a part of the 2017 Northern Liberties Winter Music Festival, Electric Church is presenting Moor Mother & Oshun. Moor Mother has been featured in Rolling Stone, Pitchfork and The Fader, all while touring heavily in the underground festival circuit. Oshun has been featured at Afropunk an in Complex and Okay Player; spending much of the past year traveling the country opening for acts like Jesse Boykins III, Raury and Lion Babe. 2. HUMP NIGHT OPEN MIC
Wednesday, February 22, 2017, 8:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m.
Come out for a premier event with top industry talent that will be blessing the mic or just come and enjoy the ambience and entertainment. This is an open mic night that will take place the last Wednesday of the month. Vocalist, hip-hop artist, musicians and poets as well as spoken word acts are all welcome. Learn more here.

3. SOULCOMMEDY
Wednesday, February 22, 2017, 8:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.
Take a night to enjoy live standup comedy as well as some of the best southern cuisine in the world. There will be free giveaways, surprise guests, the full dinner menu and appetizer specials. Learn more here.

4. COAST 2 COAST LIVE ARTIST SHOWCASE
Wednesday, February 22, 2017, 9:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.
Coast 2 Coast Live is an interactive artist showcase that brings together artists, DJs, producers, media and more for a professional networking event. Artists in the showcase are judged by a panel of celebrity judges and the winner walks away with a huge prize package to take their career to the next level. Learn more here.

5. MEETING OF THE SEXES
Thursday, February 23, 2017, 6:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
Meeting of the Sexes is back by popular demand! If you missed this event last year, you definitely want to be at the next one! Come out for an evening of great company, thought-provoking poetry, and progressive conversation. Everything will be discussed from getting out of the friend zone to non-negotiables in marriage. 6. DELIRIOUS
Thursday, February 23, 2017, 10:15 p.m. – 1:15 a.m.
Delirious is the exciting new comedy series curated by the MC of the Legendary Roots crew. Featuring the hottest new comedians on the east coast, the series will look at popular culture and society through a humorous, yet poignant lens. It is co-hosted by Tarik “Black Thought” Trotter and Quincy Harris of Fox 29’s The Q Show. Learn more here.

7. AFRO-FUSION WINTER SOIREE
Friday, February, 24, 2017, 10:00 p.m. – 2:00 a.m.
Join the culturally driven professionals of the Tri-State area for a night filled with ambiance, cocktails and beautiful Afro-Caribbean sounds by some of the most talented DJs in the area. Music ranges from Zouk, Kizom, Kompa, Afro-house, Dancehall, Afro-beat, Soca and more. Tickets purchased in advance include one free drink. Learn more here.

8. SOUL 45 SATURDAY BRUNCH
Saturday, February 25, 2017, 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Add some punch to your brunch every Saturday with Soul 45 Saturday Brunch. DJs Royal T, Joshua Kwedar, Robert Botto and Steven Ferrell bring you soul music every Saturday, spinning strictly on vinyl 45’s. 9. CHAMPAGNE WARS SUNDAYS
Sunday, February 26, 2017, 4:00 p.m. – 2:00 a.m.
Come out to “BSide Sundays” for their two-part event days starting with the Tardy Brunch Party from 4:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. They will be serving $10 Chicken and Waffles all day along with discounted bottles of champagne.
