10 Oakland Events for Black Professionals This Week

There’s always something to do in The Bay Area! Check out my curated event list for Black professionals in Oakland this week.

1. ART & BUBBLY

Friday, February 24, 2017, 7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
Just like Virgin America and Alaska Air, art and booze is an unexpected combo that just works. How else are you supposed to decipher all those abstract shapes? The folks at Signature Collective are hosting an art du jour event that’s sure to get you elevated in more ways than one. Learn more here.

2. ANNUAL SPOKEN WORD FESTIVAL
Sunday, February 26, 2017, 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
In honor of Black History Month, the African American Heritage house is hosting a day of appreciation for spoken word. Poetry and spoken word will be performed by local artists so make sure your hands are prepared for lots of snapping. Learn more here.

3. $10 HOLLA WITH KELIS
Wednesday, February 22, 2017, 8:00 p.m. – 2:00 a.m.
No matter how relevant you think she is musically, Kelis’ milkshake is still bringing all the boys to the yard (quite literally actually since she’s now a certified chef). Catch her alongside Richmond’s own Rayana Jay at 1015’s weekly juke jam. Learn more here.

4. PISCES BIRTHDAY BASH DAY PARTY
Sunday, February 26, 2017, 1:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
This one goes out to all the fluid, chill-as-hell, but also super opinionated Piscean water signs out there. One of my favorite DJ’s, D-Sharp, as well as DJ Flymar will be in the building spinning all the hottest joints for what will most likely be the first major day party of the year. Learn more here.

5. BLACK PROFESSIONALS NETWORK “BLACK HISTORY MONTH CELEBRATION”
Thursday, February, 23, 2017, 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
BPN is back with their annual BHM function at Infusion Lounge. Come out and connect with the Bay’s leading young diverse professionals to discover more about the initiatives of BlackGirlsCode and to hear from accomplished black leaders that exemplify excellence in our community. There will be a full bar and small bites on deck. Learn more here.

6. COLORS PRESENTS “R&B ONLY”
Friday, February 24, 2017, 9:00 p.m. – 2:00 a.m.
Get ready to get lit to all your favorite slow jams, boot knockers, and juke joints from the 90’s to now. Tickets to this event always go super quickly (thanks to all those darn Facebook ads) so hurry and get a pair now for a guaranteed good time. Learn more here.

7.  BROCOLETTE PRESENTS: FRESHOUT DAY PARTY OAKLAND
Sunday, February 26, 2016, 1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
The Broccollete ladies are passionate about making wellness cool, fun and sexy so they’ve curated a beautiful experience in day party format. They’ve partnered with psychologists, brands and practitioners to bring you a day of Silent disco meditation and green juice cocktails to acupressure ear seeds. Learn more here.

8. WOMEN OF COLOR IN TECH HAPPY HOUR
Thursday, February 23, 2016, 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
The visibility of WOC in the Bay Area’s tech landscape is slim to none which is truly disheartening. In an effort to change that, this happy hour was created to allow us to connect in this space. If you’re a WOC in tech, don’t be shy, come through and bring a friend! Learn more here.

9. ACCRA TO OAKLAND – PRE-INDEPENDENCE DAY PARTY
Saturday, February 25, 2017 9:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Come out and celebrate one of the second greatest West African nation’s Independence! You already know all your favorite afrobeats will be in rotation. Learn more here.

10. GOOGLE BLACK HISTORY MONTH CELEBRATION
Thursday, February 23, 2017, 5:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
The theme of this year’s BHM celebration at Google is “Reviving The Soul” which many of us need a whole lot of. There will be performances, comfort food and a chance to network (and maybe even slide a resume too) with the Black Googler’s network. Learn more here.
