A major key part of the Mardi Gras culture are the Mardi Gras Indians, celebrating the African culture that cultivated in New Orleans. Big Chief Bo Dollis Jr. and the Wild Magnolias have played the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, as well as The White House in 2011 for President Obama when Bo’s father, Bo Dollis, Sr., was awarded a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship. Check them out and experience a different side of Mardi Gras culture beyond the beads and Bourbon St. Learn more here.
