There’s always something to do in Nola! Check out my curated event list for Black professionals in New Orleans this week.

1. “PAY WHAT YOU CAN DAY” AT CAFE RECONCILE
Tuesday, February 21, 2017, 11:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Come kickoff Mardi Gras and support Reconcile Youth by donating what you can! Guests are encouraged to pay any amount they wish for their first meal. Additional meals will be provided for a minimum of $5 each. Donations allow Reconcile to provide workforce development training and support services to 100 youth each year.

2. TASTING TUESDAYS: LADIES NIGHT IN
Tuesday, February 21, 2017, 6:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m
Aiming to give you a deeper appreciation of classic, prestigious wines from various regions, all while diving glass deep into the mysteries and myths of wine tasting and food pairing. Learn about the wine making process, ordering, bottle opening and everyone’s favorite part – TASTING of course! 3. BIG CHIEF BO DOLLIS JR. AND THE WILD MAGNOLIAS
Tuesday, February 21, 2017, 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
A major key part of the Mardi Gras culture are the Mardi Gras Indians, celebrating the African culture that cultivated in New Orleans. Big Chief Bo Dollis Jr. and the Wild Magnolias have played the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, as well as The White House in 2011 for President Obama when Bo’s father, Bo Dollis, Sr., was awarded a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship. 4. MARDI GRAS PARADES SCHEDULE
Wednesday, February 22, 2017, 6:30 p.m. – Tuesday, February 28, 2017, 5:00 p.m
Mardi Gras is finally here — the most wonderful time of the year! After a crazy NBA All-Star weekend, use a few days to recover and then get ready for a weekend of parades and balls. The ones locals say not to miss: Endymion, Zulu, Muses and NOMTOC (if you make it over to the Westbank). 5. ZULU CORONATION BALL
Friday, February 24, 2017, 6:00 p.m. – Saturday, February 25, 2017, 4:00 a.m
The Zulu Ball will be held at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center featuring performances from Jaheim, Bell Biv Devoe and The O’Jays. This is a strictly formal event and is comparable to an adult prom for the “Who’s Who” of New Orleans. Tickets are officially sold out for the event, so if you already have your ticket then you’ll have a great time, but for those without, some people are usually selling and reselling tickets as the date approaches. Learn more here.
6. BIG FREEDIA & SWEET CRUDE MARDI GRAS SHAKEDOWN
Saturday, February 25, 2017, 9:00 p.m – Sunday, February 26, 2017, 2:00 a.m.
The Queen is back to announce another banger! This time, Big Freedia is throwing down on the Saturday before Mardi Gras at One Eyed Jacks with fellow Simple Play Presents artist, Sweet Crude. Learn more here.
7. HANGOVER DAY PARTY: MARDI GRAS MADNESS
Sunday, February 26, 2017, 3:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Mardi Gras is upon us and it’s a good time to say thank you to all of the Hangover Brunch regulars. New Orleans’ original Hangover Brunch Day Party presents Hangover Day Party: Mardi Gras Madness with Jack Daniels Honey. Learn more here.
8. ABSTRACTNOLA X AXIOM

Your favorite art party is back for its first Mardi Gras edition. This time they partnered with the Axiom Art Collective to bring a dope and deep art experience to get you ready for art madness. Learn more here.
9. HOT 8 BRASS BAND AT HOWLIN WOLF
Sunday, February 26, 2017, 10:00 p.m. – until

The Grammy-nominated Hot 8 Brass Band is a New Orleans based brass band that blends hip-hop, jazz and funk styles with traditional New Orleans brass sounds. It was formed by Bennie Pete, Jerome Jones, and Harry Cook in 1995, the merging of two earlier bands, the Looney Tunes Brass Band and the High Steppers Brass Band. 10. MARDI GRAS MADNESS: BACCHUS PARADE AFTER PARTY
Sunday, February 26, 2017, 10:00 p.m. – Monday, February 27, 2017, 4:00 a.m
It’s the annual Krewe of Bacchus Parade after party featuring R&B singer Lloyd and special invited guests at Masquerade, located inside Harrah’s Casino. Learn more here.
