1. SIMONE GREEN LIVE AT M LOUNGE
Wednesday, January 11, 2017, 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
Celebrate the New Year with the lovely Simone Green at M Lounge (1520 S. Wabash). Enjoy a sexy, live performance from Ms. Green with some Jazz, R&B, House Music and Old School mixed in. Early arrival is recommended. Learn more here.

2. ACTIVISM: A SERIES SHOWCASING LOCAL ACTIVISTS ORGANIZATIONS
Wednesday, January 11, 2017, 7:00 p.m. – 8:45 p.m.
Harnessing the anger and sadness felt by many over the 2016 presidential election, the Women & Children First Bookstore is launching a new monthly event series called Activism where they’ll showcase a local social justice group, detailing their mission, followed by an action plan for getting involved. To kick start the series, the bookstore is featuring two women-run organiztions–FURIE, a grassroots feminist group, and Masjid al-Rabia, a women-centered LGBTQIA+ affirming Muslim community based in Lakeview. 3. NORTH OF DIXIE: CIVIL RIGHTS PHOTOGRAPHY BEYOND THE SOUTH
Thursday, January 12, 2017, 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Ever wonder what the civil rights movement looked like for Blacks outside the south? Come to the DuSable Museum of African American History to experience North of Dixie: Civil Rights Photography Beyond the South, where author and historian Mark Speltz sheds light on the images of everyday activists and campaigns in Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, and many other cities along the Mason-Dixon line. 4. NAT KING COLE PERFORMED BY SAM TRUMP AND WIND ORCHESTRA
Thursday, January 12, 2017, 8:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
Sam Trump and the 20 piece, Wind Orchestra will be performing Nat King Cole’s 1958 record ‘THE VERY THOUGHT OF YOU’ at Aura Sounds Sessions under the Jazz Record Art Collective. The night will also feature a showcase and live painting from visual artist David Anthony Geary. Learn more here.

5. OFF THE WALL: OPENING RECEPTION
Friday, January 13, 2017, 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
Studio Oh is kicking off the New Year with a show inspired by graffiti and street art. For this celebration, they’ll be featuring the works of Derric Clemmons, Ronit Weiner, and John Yaou. Food and beverages will be served. Learn more here.

6. OLD BLACK MAGIC PRESENTED BY AMFM
Friday, January 13, 2017, 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
Come to the Chicago Art Department for Old Black Magic, and art experience presented by AMFM. Inspired by the popular song by Ella Fitzgerald, Old Black Magic is a celebration of Blackness through visual art, photography, film, performance art, poetry, dance, and music. Featured artists include Amir George, Alexandria Eregbu, RJ Eldridge,  other artists, creatives, and performers. Learn more here.

7. INCANTATIONS WITH THE SUNSET SOCIETY
Friday, January 13, 2017, 7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
Join the Sunset Society this Friday to kick off their weekly functions in 2017 at the Stony Arts Bank. Leave your woes at the door and get lost in a ceremonious drumbeat along with Chicago’s best house presented by featured guest DJ Ayana Contreras. Curated by Coultrain, Incantations with the Sunset Society will offer a new platform for the legacy of house music and lounge grooves. Learn more here.

8. ELITE QUEEN’Z BRUNCH: FASHION & HAIR SHOW EVENT
Saturday, January 14, 2017, 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
The Park Avenue Banquet Hall is hosting the Elite Queen’z Brunch, a fashion and hair show, and networking event presented by Elite Queen’z Action Jackson, Big Redd, and Jazz E. This is a ladies only event, and tickets include a meal, free mimosas from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. along with a small swag bag. Vendors will be present as well. Learn more here.

9. VISION BOARD PARTY & HOW TO NETWORK IN 2017 MIXER

10. AMFM AND THE DOJO PRESENTS: BLUE LION REIMAGINED
Saturday, January 14, 2017, 7:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.
AMFM, The Dojo, and Lester Rey invite you to the “Blue Lion Reimagined” showcase, celebrating 1 year since the debut of the Blue Lion EP. The release of the new EP project is a collaborative effort by DJs all over the world reimagining the original songs of the Blue Lion. The project features Bleepolar, AfroQbano, Bumbac Joe, El Bles, Gio Chamba, and Los MaraFackas. Food will be provided by The Jibarito Stop and art market and vendors will be on site.
