1. HOUSTON MATTERS TOWN HALL
Tuesday, November 15, 2016, 11:30 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.
As a part of its DiverseCity initiative, Houston Matters is hosting an hour-long conversation about the relationship between Houston’s African American community and law enforcement. Hosted by Craig Cohen, representatives from both communities will share their experiences, as well as answer questions from members of the live audience. Learn more here.

2. “PRESERVING COMMUNITIES OF COLOR” KICK OFF
Tuesday, November 15, 2016, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
The Historic Black Towns and Settlements Alliance’s “Preserving Communities of Color” conference begins this Tuesday with a kickoff party and happy hour mixer. There will be a live Buffalo Soldiers re-enactment, music by Conrad O. Johnson Youth Jazz Ensemble, appetizers by D.C’s. Lil-Bit-A-Cajun, and the Black Township Art Exhibit courtesy of The Community Artists’ Collective. Learn more here.

3. SCHOOL OF BOURBON
Tuesday, November 15, 2016 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Woodford Reserve presents School of Bourbon at The Parador, an interactive tasting that pairs Woodford Reserve bourbon with some of your favorite foods to train your palate. All proceeds will benefit Mankind, a prostate cancer awareness and research organization. Bring a friend to enjoy delicious drinks while supporting a great cause. Learn more here.

4. FLASH GORDON PARKS AT ALLEY KAT
Wednesday, November 16, 2016, 8:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.
Listen to the sounds of Houston Press Music Award nominee DJ Flash Gordon Parks at Alley Kat Bar and Lounge this Wednesday. Come out early from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. to enjoy happy hour food and drink specials. Plus, there’s no cover all night. Learn more here.

5. EAT. DRINK. ART. AT HMAAC
Friday, November 18, 2016, 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Meet local artists and art enthusiasts at Eat. Drink. Art., hosted at The Houston Museum of African American Culture. Guests will receive complimentary lite bites and drinks, with the opportunity to purchase goods from local area small businesses and artisans. Learn more here.

6. HASHTAG LUNCHBAG HOUSTON: THANKSGIVING EDITION
Saturday, November 19, 2016, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Bring in the season of giving at Hashtag Lunchbag Houston’s Thanksgiving edition event. Volunteers will help the fight against hunger by making fresh sandwiches and snack bags to be distributed to the city’s homeless. Learn more here.

7. ZINE FEST HOUSTON
Saturday, November 19, 2016, 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Zine Fest Houston is a local volunteer-based organization and annual event dedicated to promoting zines, comics, and other forms of small press, alternative, underground DIY media and art. The festival will be hosted at Lawndale Art Center and features a conversation centered on Black Lives Matter, as well as publishing and activism. Learn more here.

8. 6TH ANNUAL BAYOU CITY POETRY GRAND SLAM
Saturday, November 19, 2016, 7:00 p.m. – 10:00 a.m.
Watch 20 talented performance poets from across the country compete for cash prizes in a “thrilling display of poetic virtuosity and theatrical intensity. “The poetry slam features top names from HBO’s Def Jam Poetry and the World Poetry Slam. 9. LEGENDS OF SOUTHERN HIP HOP
Saturday, November 19, 2016, 8:00 p.m. – until
Southern rappers from the “golden era” of hip hop reunite for the Legends of Southern Hip Hop Tour. The night will feature performances from rap favorites, including Mystikal, Juvenile, 8 Ball & MJG, Trick Daddy, Bun B and Scarface. Learn more here.

10. CROWN ROYAL RUMBLE
Sunday, November 25, 2016, 1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Have Sunday Funday at the Crown Royal Space for part four of the Crown Royal Rumble, a battle between Crown Royal and Crown Apple. Complimentary Crown cocktails will be served, with music by DJ Debanair and DJ Auditory. This event is free with RSVP, but space is limited.Learn more here.
